"Our bodies are like our personalities.  Very individualized.  My philosophy towards treatment is ensuring my patient's treatment plan is as individualized as they are.  Although certain conditions may present similarly, their root cause and contributing factors are unique to only them."

"I believe that there are four essential elements that are conducive to success.

(1) A thorough assessment, including an in-depth history.
(2) Educating the patient on their condition and optimal loading strategies moving forward.
(3) Hands-on individualized treatment to restore functional movement.
(4) And lastly, a personalized corrective exercise program which can be performed at home with minimal or no equipment and with no prior exercise experience."

"It is my goal to create a scenario where the patient understands these factors and are willing to address them with me to achieve a common goal.  As such, education is the most important aspect of my treatment plan because it EMPOWERS THE PATIENT to become an important member of their own health team.  My role as a physiotherapist is to encourage my patients to reach their full potential."

In order to understand my present,
You must understand my PAST.

Education

Originally from Vancouver, I graduated with a degree in Kinesiology Human Kinetics from UBC.  I followed that by moving to Brisbane, Australia, where I graduated with a Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland, one of the foremost leaders in the world of physiotherapy.
After working overseas, I returned home to Vancouver, where I volunteered with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games working behind the scenes at Canada Hockey Place. It wasn’t long before I was on the move again. Following my experience with the Olympics, I moved to Montreal, where I worked with Le Cirque du Soleil, treating artists with a wide range of injuries within their Performance Medicine Department.

In addition to this experience, I also have extensive on-field athletic rehab experience ranging from high-school to the Men’s and Women’s Varsity Hockey, Soccer, Volleyball and Basketball teams from UBC and Capilano University.

Areas of Specialization

I currently hold a Fellowship with the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT).  The highest level of clinical education in Canada.  It's this dedication for self-improvement as well as my wide background in sport and athletic rehab, which allows me to combine innovative manual therapy techniques with an active rehabilitation program to address multiple aspects of my patient’s dysfunction simultaneously. In addition to my degree in Kinesiology (Human Kinetics), I also have my Pilates certification, which I use to address postural weaknesses and to strengthen core stabilizers ensuring the patient’s success without the need for ongoing physiotherapy.
My treatment encompasses a whole body approach.   Breaking down the body to find the area of dysfunction rather than just "treating the pain". This allows for the driving force of the pain to be extinguished resulting in long lasting relief.
I treat all kinds of dysfunctions, but I really enjoy working on shoulders and knees, due to their complexity of motor control, but due to my background and expertise, I also specialize in Neck and the Low Back and their associated disorders such as Headaches and Sciatica.

Interest

Hockey_travel.jpgOn a personal note, I am passionate about staying active while inspiring and promoting healthy living through education and living an active lifestyle. This includes cycling, snowboarding and playing ice hockey of which I have been strongly dedicated to for nearly 40 years and has given me the opportunity to play around the world. This lifelong dedication to hockey has sparked a new interest clinically: Concussions.

stock-inline-2.jpg I have done multiple courses in Concussion Physiotherapy, which allows me to screen the different systems affected by a concussion and treat patients suffering from Post-Concussive-Syndrome. I also offer seminars within the community, teaching young athletes and their parents about the signs and dangers of suffering a concussion and guidelines regarding proper return to activity.
